Career Exploration Continues for our High School Students

Mrs. Press has been leading a group of juniors and sophomores in a morning career exploration workshop. The workshop aims to help students discover who God made them to be and explore the possible careers that align with their interests, skills, abilities, ideal community, work environment, and coworkers, among other factors. Using the book "What Color is Your Parachute for Teens," the workshop goes beyond a simple inventory or interest survey and provides a holistic approach to career exploration.

When she offered this workshop, she wasn't sure who would be interested. After all, it begins at 8 am!  The students come to school early to participate in the workshop, and they have been thoroughly engaged in the process. Mrs. Press has been delighted to see the students open up and share their thoughts and dreams with one another. Through the workshop, Mrs. Press has had the chance to get to know these students on a deeper level, and she has enjoyed helping them discover new things about themselves.

Mrs. Press is responsible for post-high school planning, and this workshop has been just one of the new opportunities she has offered this year to help students plan for their future. This workshop follows two months of Lunchtime Career Chats that were held this winter. She will be using the results from this year's workshop to help select and plan the careers for next year's Lunchtime Career Chat sessions.

At Cornerstone, we recognize the importance of guiding students in discovering their passions and developing the skills they need to succeed in the workforce. More than that, we recognize the importance of equipping our students to listen to God and to make decisions with His guidance.  It is a blessing to see our faculty and staff invest in our students as individuals, pointing them to our Creator at each step along the way.

It is also a blessing to get to know our students and to keep in contact with them as alumni. Mrs. Press looks forward to seeing what God has in store for each of the students in the future.
