The Excitement of New Beginnings

Tonya Snyder, Head of School

The start of a new school year brings a wide range of mixed emotions for many: students, parents, teachers, and administrators. The promise of a new beginning is exciting in many ways, but the unknowns of that new beginning can sometimes feel daunting. This is especially true for very young children and their parents who are separating for the first time. It can apply to the new student who was formerly home- schooled and isn't sure how basic needs will be met in this new setting. The anticipation of a fresh start at a new school for an older student can quickly become worrisome when thinking about making new friends.

Cornerstone is blessed this year to have lots of "new" students, parents, teachers, and even a new administrator. Additionally, although many were also at CCS last year, we were still playing it "safe" with very few opportunities to get together in large groups. Some of us may still feel "new" this year as a result.

One of the greatest qualities of Cornerstone, as articulated by most folks, is our family-like community. As a Preschool through Grade 12 school with under 200 students enrolled, we have the privilege of really getting to know one another. When each senior graduates, for instance, we all feel like one of our "own kids" is leaving the nest. When a school team is recognized for an achievement, we all want to celebrate that achievement together!

As we enter the 2022-2023 school year, I am deeply encouraged to think of the ways that we will be coming back together--in person--for so many of these gatherings and for some that will be new this year. CCS never intends to compete with family time or time invested in our local churches, but we do know the value of commUNITY. Whenever possible, we hope you will know how much we value seeing and being with you and your children!

I am praying as I write this article that all the nervousness that will be felt by many will quickly be overriden by the goodness of God in our midst!
